1. Too Good To Go

Each year, 1/3 of food produced in the world goes to waste and this is responsible for 8 % of greenhouse gas emissions. Too Good To Go helps combat food waste by buying surplus food from local stores at a discounted price. Do you ever wonder what restaurants and cafes do at the end of the day with all their extra food? Well some of them sign up with Too Good To Go so they can sell this food at a discounted price. This is the perfect app for helping out the planet and finding bargain food. The app has gained popular traction in Europe and has plans to expand to the US.

2. PaperKarma

If you live in the US and are always bombarded with junk mail, this is the perfect app for you. It can be easy to unsubscribe from junk mail on your emails but more difficult with physical mail. PaperKarma is the ultimate recycling tool. Take a photo of your junk mail and stop receiving all ads and magazines. This app will save the trees and your time sorting through junk mail.

3. Capture

Capture provides an easy way of monitoring your carbon footprint. The app estimates your carbon footprint through using GPS tracking to automatically predict emissions from daily journals. A short series of questions also helps track emissions from food. The app even lets you create personalised monthly CO2 targets based on recommendations from the IPCC.

4. Tickr

Tickr is an investment platform that lets you invest in companies making positive impacts around the world. For example, you can invest in companies focusing on clean energy and global water access for all. Alternatively, you can invest in companies which focus on equality be it gender equality, diversion or access to healthcare.

Your investment is held within a Stocks & Shares ISA or General Investment Account (GIA) and tickr offers several themed ETFs meaning you will be invested in hundreds of established, publicly listed companies on the stock market. Tickr’s portfolios include a range of established ETFs (exchange traded funds). Every portfolio has between 2 and 8 theme-based ETFs selected for you, and then depending on the risk level of your investment, your fund will also include a proportion of Government Bonds, Green Bonds and cash to help you grow your money for the long-term. As always, please be careful when choosing an investment platform!

5. Charity miles

Charity Miles is a running, cycling and walking tracker app that tracks how many miles you’ve covered during your fitness routine. Based on the miles you move, sponsors such as Humana, Johnson & Johnson and Chobani will donate to your charity of choice. They are partners with over 40 world-class charities that are making a big impact for health, children, animals, the environment, education, veterans and more.
